Paul Hughes
Storm Cellar interior

Our team is made up not only of those who work directly in the eye of the storm, but our family and friends, and our ever-growing extended family of storm chasers.

If you drink it, you’re one of us.

We can’t thank you enough for buying our beer and taking a chance on two guys who didn’t want to work proper jobs (and a dog who was chasing a seagull). But we can promise we will keep making great beer and still do some excessive tasting from time to time at the beach.

Paul Hughes
Managing Director

Paul is the man that keeps the merry bunch in control, the one with the crazy ideas, and always the man with the plan. With hospitality at the core of everything Paul does, he’s the one that can these days be found out and about talking to customers, acquaintances and the team. Paul is Mr Black Storm.

Lee Ellwood
Regional Sales Manager

Beers, Breweries and pubs are a huge passion of Lee’s.  He was born into a Family of publicans before starting work as one of the last apprentices at Vaux Breweries.  Lee then ran pubs across the North, before moving into Craft & Cask sales for independent brewers and now he is looking forward to helping build up the sales and profile for Black Storm. If you’re looking to stock Black Storm Beers, he’s the man to talk to.

Jamie Brown

A contender for our biggest beer enthusiastic, Jamie’s love of beer and expertise in the market gives us a huge advantage. The organisation of delivering our products is no mean feat, ensuring all our stockists are constantly stocked with beer. Jamie’s other role is to drive the now-famous Black Storm van nationally; from Scotland to Southampton, he really does clock up some serious miles.

Mark Shotton
Beer Box Newcastle Manager

Mark, the manager of Newcastle Beer Box is a lover of all things beer. This match made in heaven between himself and the box is an exciting partnership. Mark’s expert knowledge of all beers is proving integral when sharing his recommendations to our customers. Prior to his role, Mark was a regular shopper in the box and was keen to emulate the terrific service he got whenever he wanted a beer or two.

Gordon Dickinson
Logistics Manager

The man of all trades, Gordon’s diverse skillset plays a vital role for the team. 8 years’ experience of working in the beer industry at INNSERVE as one of the first-ever dispense installation technicians, has been key in the growth of Black Storm. You usually can find him driving the van, fitting a bar, in the office, or overseeing the brewery. ‘G’s ethos of ‘working with beer everyday so life can’t be that bad’, mirrors the thoughts of everyone here.

Daniel Kingswood

Thomas Truscott

An outgoing, creative marketeer who enjoys all things weird and wonderful in craft beer market. When not at work you’ll find Thomas outdoors, whether it’s playing/watching sport, walking his dog or riding his bike, either way it usually ends with a trip to the pub.

Lauren Weir
Drop Everything And Drink Manager

Drop Everything And Drink manager Lauren made the leap from Storm Cellar Whitley Bay to run her own bar in Newcastle city centre. Lauren’s steely determination to put her stamp on D.E.A.D has worked wonders since taking the position in June. Leading with a bubbly, driven style, the bar has begun to find its identity thanks to her personable character and willpower to succeed.

Kieran Hancock
Assistant Brewer

Kieran first fell in love with great beers while visiting Cornwall over five years ago, where he toured some incredible breweries and became fascinated with the process. Moving to Newcastle to study Biochemistry, Kieran discovered craft brewing at its finest and explored a huge variety of styles and brews. Now in the brewery, he hopes to use his scientific background to bring out the very best in our beers and keep innovating with ever-changing recipes.

Alfie (2011-2018)
The Brewery Spaniel

Alfie is the one that really we all answered too, and he would have done anything for a treat. His official role was the meeter and greeter. You would usually have found Alfie at the side of Paul, but he had been known to deflect to another member of the family!
